creativity as medicine

creativity for joy

The world is pretty serious right now, and chronic pain has a way of making life feel even more serious. I firmly believe levity, joy, and creativity aren’t just for entertainment or distraction, they are our lifeforce. When we cease to laugh and play or express our unique voices we can feel like a shell of ourselves. Pain is heavy, and you deserve to remember feeling light and free. I strive to make therapy a freeing, creative environment so my clients can find new ways to see and express themselves, find ease, and imagine themselves beyond their pain.

creativity for healing

Creativity and play isn’t just joyful, it’s medicine too. I incorporate a variety of somatic and creative techniques into our work because I’ve found that it can help people process the impact of pain on their life story and start to heal. Pain is incredibly hard to communicate to others, which is one reason it’s so isolating. We’ll use lots of creative, symbolic methods in therapy to give shape and expression to the pain so it can’t shut you in anymore and your experience can finally be shared and validated. When you’re able to share the deep impact your pain has had on you and actually be understood rather than dismissed, you can start to break free of the isolating grip of pain. You can feel seen, heard, and BELIEVED. This is crucial to reclaiming your life from pain and writing a new story. You don’t need to be an artist or storyteller to use these techniques, just someone ready to recover your own voice.
